ALBERT MICHELSON(1852-1931)
Born On: 19th Dec 1852. Died On: 09th May 1931.
Michelson was born in Germany but he belongs to the US. He was the first American to win a Nobel Prize. He got Noble Prize for the measurement of the speed of light. He is famous for the Michelson-Morley Experiment.
Contributions:
Michelson tried to identify an absolute frame of reference by designing an experiment along with Morley which is also called a null result experiment.
Form his experiment (Michelson - Morley experiment), Scientists came to the conclusion that there is no ether medium to the entire universe.
He got the noble prize for the measurement of Speed of Light in 1907.
He observed interference patterns by using two plane mirrors arranging both perpendiculars to each other which is also called as Michelson interferometer. (Interferometer means an instrument which can form interference which set of beams and though which we can measure the refractive index of the material).
